For the past two years, we at the Equal Justice Society have witnessed the scapegoating of immigrants. We believe this is part of a pattern of racism directed at people of color.

This year, we have commissioned ODC to create a dance honoring immigrants. We believe that art lifts our souls and fills our hearts with joy and comfort…what better way to celebrate the holidays!

Five years ago, the civil rights community organized a party called, “Shut Up & Dance”. We just wanted to have fun. With you – our fellow colleagues, activists, and community members – we struggle day in and day out for social and racial justice…we’d like to take an evening to simply celebrate who we are and what we have accomplished.

This continues that tradition.

Pas de Deux is French for "Step of Two" and is what partnering is called in ballet. Lifts and jumps are some of the most awe-inspiring moves in ballet as well as being the most demanding – they can be fun, tiring, or scary. Sounds like our work! In addition to honoring Lucha Unida del Jornalero (United Day Laborers of Oakland), Marcus Shelby, and Professor Charles Ogletree for their awe-inspiring struggles for justice, we honor you.

Proceeds will benefit the Equal Justice Society: a national advocacy organization advancing racial justice through law and public policy, communications and the arts, and alliance building. Together, we can transform society into one where race is no longer a barrier to opportunity.

Tickets are $125 General / $75 EJS Members
