Mildred Howard “Last Train from Dixie and $1.25 II” Suite

The suite Last Train from Dixie and $1.25 II was taken from a series I first did in 1978 and based on my family’s move from south eastern Texas to San Francisco to find a better way. When my parents arrived all they had was $1.25.  Within two months they had sent for my nine sisters and brothers, my grandmother, a couple of cousins and a close friend. The title Last Train from Dixie & $1.25, II is taken from that story that I heard as a child. My parents were both community, union,  political and civil rights activists so what the Equal Justice Society is doing is dear to my heart and embedded in my thinking. The goals of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom were goals that my family embodied and fought to achieve.
