Undergraduate Research Intern

Position: Undergraduate Research Intern

Application Deadline: Rolling

The Equal Justice Society (“EJS”) is a national civil rights legal organization with the goal of transforming the nation’s consciousness on race through the law, social science, and the arts.

Eva Paterson and other civil rights advocates founded EJS more than a decade ago to reverse an imbalance in our courts, where it is now more difficult for those experiencing discrimination to receive justice, and in the hearts and minds of the public, where too many believe that discrimination no longer exists.

EJS is currently seeking Research Interns for Spring 2018 and Summer 2018.

The Research Intern will work closely with the Legal Director, President, and Development Director on research, writing, and other projects in the areas of civil rights and racial justice.  This role is ideal for a highly motivated individual who is committed to civil rights, and interested in gaining internship experience in law, nonprofit organizational development, and research.

Qualifications:  We are looking for an Intern with strong academic credentials and interpersonal skills; excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills; adaptability, creativity, and a strong sense of responsibility and ownership of work; the ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams; the ability to multi-task and follow through on assigned projects to completion; and the desire to gain experience doing a variety of tasks relevant to different aspects of law and social science.

Commitment: We require a minimum of 4-6 hours per week during the school year, or 20 hours per week during the summer.  Hours are flexible.  The Equal Justice Society’s office is located at 1939 Harrison St., Suite 818, in Oakland (close to 19th St. BART Station).  Our office is open Monday-Friday between the hours of 9AM and 5PM. This is a part-time, unpaid internship position.  Work study and/or school-credit available upon review.
