Roberto J. González, a sociocultural anthropologist, is chair of the anthropology department at San Jose State University. His work focuses upon science, technology, and society; militarism and culture; humans and their relationship to the environment; and anthropological ethics. His books include Zapotec Science: Farming and Food in the Northern Sierra of Oaxaca (2001), American Counterinsurgency: Human Science and the Human Terrain (2009), and Militarizing Culture: Essays on the Warfare State (2010). His current research focuses on the military applications of “big data.”
