Help stop Trump judicial nominee with history of suppressing the Black vote

From our friends at LDF:

[Thomas Farr’s] career is characterized by his continual efforts to advance and codify racism in North Carolina. From approving racially discriminatory materials to intimidate Black voters on behalf of the Jesse Helms for Senate Campaign, to fiercely fighting for laws that disenfranchise and weaken opportunities for people of color, Farr’s record is clear.

But Thomas Farr hasn’t simply championed white supremacy. His inaccurate testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee suggests he’s also dishonest. Individuals selected for the judiciary are given a lifetime appointment, and must be able to adjudicate difficult legal disputes fairly and without bias.

Farr’s career and misleading Committee testimony suggest he is simply incapable of doing so. Confirming him would send the chilling message to Black North Carolinians that their rights will not be honestly protected in federal court. Senators must stop rubber-stamping judicial nominees, and vote against this aggressively regressive choice. Our federal courts require competent and qualified judges, and Farr does not come close to meeting that standard.

From our friends at PFAW:

Trump and the Far-Right are winning in their efforts to pack our federal courts with extreme narrow-minded elitist judicial nominees. But your help can turn the tide.

One of Trump’s most extreme nominees right now is Thomas Farr, nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Farr is a go-to litigator for vote suppressors, defending disenfranchisement campaigns after the Supreme Court’s decision that dismantled the VRA, as well as partisan and racial gerrymandering, and obstacles for eligible voters trying to register. And he defended North Carolina’s transphobic bathroom ban which is just another example of his clear ideological mission.

Farr is scheduled to be voted on in the Judiciary Committee on January 18.

Farr is much more than just a run-of-the-mill advocate of voter suppression — his history of disenfranchising voters of color is long. He reportedly played a role in a notorious voter intimidation campaign aimed at Black voters in 1990, when he worked for ultraconservative then-Senator Jesse Helms — something he LIED to the Senate Judiciary Committee about during his hearing!

Voting isn’t the only civil right threatened by judicial nominee Thomas Farr.

He champions weakening or even eliminating legal protections for employment discrimination and said it was “better policy for the state” when the North Carolina legislature eliminated the right of workers to bring a job discrimination lawsuit in state court.
