‘There’ a Mother’s Day Poem by Michael Tyler

By Michael Tyler, EJS Poet-in-Residence

She was there…
Before you breathed air,
Before you felt touch,
Before you heard sound,
Before you saw light.
There…
Before you were dreamt,
Before you were hoped,
Before you were thought,
Before you were named.

You were there…
In her first second,
In her first minute,
In her first hour.
In her first day.
There…
In her body,
In her blessing,
In her being,
In her belief.

For you to see here,
She had to be there.
For you to hear here,
She had to be there.
For you to feel here,
She had to be there.
For you to live here,
She had to be there.
She has always been there…
For you.
