Our summer interns brought energy and dedication to the Equal Justice Society, supporting our legal team and collaborating across every department. Our gratitude to Brianna Morrison, Nazrawi Allen, and Kaysia Harrington for their contributions!
Brianna Morrison was an HBCU Law Racial Justice Intern this summer and is now a 3L at Howard University School of Law. Brianna conducted vital legal research and analysis in preparation for two trials, and her legal writing will guide us in future litigation decisions. Her passion for racial justice in the public health context shone through in an article that she wrote for EJS’s Health Equity Newsletter. Brianna also did important work to determine the amount of funds allocated towards California’s reparations bills, as well as researching arguments to combat harmful anti-DEI rhetoric.
Racial Justice Intern Nazrawi Allen is a 2L and co-president of the Black Law Students Association at UC Law San Francisco. Nazrawi supported the work of EJS’s Legal Team and ongoing litigation this summer, including by conducting discovery review, researching the current state of anti-discrimination laws, attending meetings with our clients and co-counsel, and contributing to our legal strategy decision-making. Nazrawi also did vital outreach in the Oakland community and in the higher education space to advance our racial equity goals.
Kaysia Harrington was a Mindich Service Fellow this summer after having just graduated from Harvard College with a B.A. in Social Studies and African American Studies with a focus on U.S. Schools, Prisons, and Law. Kaysia worked on key projects for EJS this summer, including summarizing three critical research reports authored by students from Harvard Kennedy School’s Trotter Collaborative for Social Justice into an easy-to-read digest of recommendations for EJS to implement into our core work. She also assisted with social media and communications strategy and compiled a reference memorandum on AI usage and policies in civil rights organizations.
All of us at EJS thank Brianna, Naz, and Kaysia for spending their summer with us. We look forward to seeing them grow and succeed in their respective careers and endeavors!
