Arizona v. United States

Arizona v. United States (U.S. 2012): EJS joined the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Southern Poverty Law Center, League of United Latin American Citizens, and other civil rights organizations, and signed on to an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of Arizona’s controversial immigration SB 1070 law. The brief used personal stories and demographic data to demonstrate how the law disproportionately impacts citizens of color. The brief highlighted the ways in which SB 1070, and other copycat legislation, have a negative social effect and lead to increasing instance of racism and escalate racial tensions.
